[Review] Back To The Origin | The Notion of A Good Night Rest With Origin Mattress Malaysia

We have a little secret to share - we were having neck issue while sleeping when the MCO lockdown started in March this year. We noticed the problem persisted throughout that stressful duration - must be the sudden change of lifestyle, working from home, extended period of time spending in front of the laptop working those virtual meetings, honestly, it took a toll on us, physically and emotionally. That stress somehow transferred over into the night. The next morning, when we woke up from our sleeps, we had fairly severe neck and shoulder pain. So, we thought, perhaps it was a good time to change our pillow already. The new pillow did ease the issue and we noticed improvement over time. 

So, when we were approached by Origin Mattress Malaysia (they recently launched their Malaysian website at Origin Hybrid®️ Mattress) offered us to give their  Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow a try, we were excited to give it a go as we are a strong believer of a good night sleep! Not only that, it was also being featured as one of The Best 8 Pillows In Singapore, to boot. So, we slept on it *_^

Designed in Germany by a team of experts led by Frank Richter, the brand is in fact owned and founded by the duo, Shaun and Gee, who went to great lengths in research and development (mattress foam types, cooling memory foam, latex. spring, thickness, sleep patterns, extensive tests like Polysomnograms, Multiple Sleep Latency (MSL), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) to study how the types of beddings can affect the quality of sleep based on varied factors from age, lifestyle to sleeping postures. Anything that revolves around our health, is most definitely a long term investment. Hence, Shaun and Gee were determined to make the purchase for customers a seamless process that eliminates unnecessary hassles, confusion and stress with limited knowledge of unfamiliar terminologies - viola, we now have Origin Malaysia and its proudly made in Malaysia bedding essentials. 

The package arrived in a handy rectangular box. Simple and no fuss with their product features and benefits clearly stated on the box. Upon unboxing, one will see a pristine clear white pillow that comes with a lined-pattern removable and washable pillow cover. This is no ordinary cover, as it is made of luxuriously threaded Tencel fabric, by industry standard, "regenerated cellulose" fiber of botanic origin (know more about Tencel here) which gives you the extra softer feel (yes, way softer than cotton). We love the fact that this material is sustainable, machine-washable to extend the pillow's life span for the long run, hypoallergenic (good news for our ultra sensitive nose! Less prone to dust, bacteria or mould issues), lightweight and has an environmentally responsible production process. 

According to the brand, the Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow is specifically designed with the warmer and humid weather of tropical countries like Malaysia in mind, infusing the pillow with natural latex filling and Coolmax® cooling gel formula to make each sleep a blissfully relaxing one. 

At first glance, this Origin hybrid® Pillow does look kind of thin, it isn't as fluffy and thick as the previous one we owned (that sorted out our neck and upper back issue) but upon closer inspection, when we sink our hands onto it, it does feel more dense and solid, surprisingly (must be due to its latex foam having denser material compared to memory foam or fibre). Our interest were piqued already. Then, there was the test. It was said that this version of pillow had gone through dozens of sleep trials, more than 10 different product tests and 100 density changes before making it to the market. 

Our thought

First low-down on the pillow - super comfortable and it tugs in just nicely to our head and neck. A latex pillow does mould to the shape of our head which gives us the right level of sleep support. Note that we do sleep on both sides (turning to our left and right) throughout the night and they were all good. It is also claimed that being impression-resistant, this pillow can hold its shape for many years while still be able to feel its softness. How cool is that? We shall keep an eye out for that. After 14 days of sleep trials (and still counting), we are extremely pleased to say that Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow does what it promises to do - giving us one of the best sleeps we have had for quite some time. We can't articulate how important it is to have a good night sleep and to wake up to a truly energised and fulfilling early morning the next day, over and over again.
