[Review] Mary Kay® TimeWise Microdermabrasion Step 1: Refine

We were quite intrigued when we first received this skincare set from a dear friend. It is Mary Kay® TimeWise® Microdermabrasion Set, one that received quite some rave reviews by users. We were interested due to the fact that we are new to the concept of microdermabrasion and have not tried it. Upon some research, we found that there is a difference between dermabrasion and microdermabrasion (here for more). We have always thought that microdermabrasion can only be done in a clinic with specific instrument or equipment and it is quite interesting that it can now be used at home too, with Mary Kay®'s set. With it, also came their Creme Lipstick *_^

First of all, Mary Kay® is a direct selling company founded by Mary Kay Ash way back in 1963 to give women around the world a platform to succeed through sheer perseverance in advocating beauty in a safe manner through their beauty products. (here to explore) The nature of the business is nothing new to us. Let's get down to exploring the TimeWise® Microdermabrasion Step 1: Refine, shall we?

The set comes with two main products, actually. One is the Step 1: Refine, the other one is a moisturizer, Step 2: Replenish. We will be talking about Step 1 today. It came in a simple paper box, in pink colour. This two-part product features a topical scrub and post-treatment moisturizer. The scrub we believe can be purchased separately. Refine is said to contain alumina crystals as the abrasive agent. It is the same ingredient used in the professionally administered microdermabrasion treatments in the clinic. Many microdermabrasion products are created with harsh ingredients, this one by Mary Kay® carefully offers an oil and fragrance-free option, which is also non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, which is good news. With pro-long use, this combo is said to refine one's pores, fine lines and wrinkle to reveal a healthier and smoother radiant skin.

The Experience
Anyone who decides to go for a microdermabrasion is most definitely intend to get a good rub down or so called "polish" to reveal a more subtle "baby", glowing skin after. The product is in a tube, white in colour once squeezed out. Don't be fooled by its smooth-looking texture, it is filled with very fine granule (the crystals). Upon rubbing against our face for the first time, we were taken aback by how such a fine textured scrub can have such a "rough" feeling on the face. We don't really know how to explain it proper, the granule is super small and fine in sizes, we feel, but the feel of them is really coarse. First impression was that it feels like an abrasive one, not something that we are accustomed to. After a few times of usage, we finally realized that perhaps we need to have a more gentle approach to our rubbing. So, we have been trying to now, each time, when we use this, to give it a more gentle rub to our face, instead of the usual pressure that we apply with most other scrubs. That would make the experience much better.

We use this about 2 times a week, at first once a week as we were not used to its rough texture. If we ever need a good scrub down, like on days we put on a tad more makeup then usual, this would be a great choice. We do feel that it cleans the face very thoroughly and do see a little nice improvement in terms of our overall skin condition. As for shrinking pores part, not that much. Perhaps we need to pair it with Step 2: Replenish to see better results?

This Mary Kay® Creme Lipstick we received is a lovely deep champagne/ red wine sort of colour shade called Apple Berry. Fragrance free with a hint of vanilla flavour, this emollient and moisturizing long-wearing lipstick glides on super easy, feels lightweight yet comfortable on the lips, perhaps due to its Vitamin E and Vitamin C derivative (helps defend against wrinkle-causing free radicals). Its creamy texture feels nice on the lips, though we would prefer it to have a slightly better coverage though. It has a slight metallic look sort of finish to it, on the lips, very little. Nonetheless, the hue is a gorgeous one, we feel, perfect for this fall season. Its emollient and moisturizing properties are meant to work as a protective layer against moisture loss. It does hold up and still feel subtle after a long wear. Another good thing is that the cap comes in its colour shade, so it makes it easier to identify or find in your purse, if you do own more than one shade, that is. (here for more shade selection)

We look forward to sharing with you our experience of using the Mary Kay® Step 2: Replenish moisturizer soon. Do note that the brand has recently launch a new Mary Kay® Step 2: Replenish (here). To learn more about the Mary Kay® brand, you can always contact our friendly Beauty Consultant and dear friend, Fatin Osman at +6019 666 8494 or write her at fatin.osman@yahoo.de

We wonder if you had tried any direct selling beauty products before? How do they fare compared to the normal beauty brands in the market? Thanks for the love, Fatin and we wish you would have a lovely rest of the week, lovelies *_^
