[Review] NARS Audacious Mascara & Kohliner

Following the opening of NARS boutique at Suria KLCC recently, we were introduced to NARS latest offering in the mascara department - its new addition to the audacious family, the new NARS Audacious Mascara and the NARS Kohliner. Here is our experience using the two items. According to NARS, this Audacious Mascara lets you take control and lose control at the same time. Building upon an already prolific line of Audacious lipstick (which we blogged about here before), it is quite a bold move for the brand to take away the rest of the mascaras and remain only this one, audacious indeed.

NARS Audacious Mascara, Black Moon (MYR110)
First look at the bristle (originally red in colour), it is designed with over 200 molded bristles and lengthening hooks. Yes, hooks and they look pretty daunting (to us, at least), but it is precisely this design that is supposed to grab, lengthen, volumize and separate, heavy-duty kind of lash-catching work there, to achieve that amplified look for the eyelashes. Housed in a rubbery tube which looks consistent with other NARS products of late, the brush head is relatively big in size. We are not too sure if it is because our eyes are smaller and lashes are not that long, we got pricked a few times applying the mascara, it feels sharp. After a few other attempts on different occasions, we still accidentally poked our eyes. (ooops *_^) So, be extra careful while using this mascara though. Guess it needs quite some practice and getting used to. Having said that, makeup artist and famed youtuber, Wayne Goss super love this mascara and he applies it so effortlessly. Check out the video at the end of this blog post.

The colour is quite intensely black, which is great but the formula is a tad thick, we feel, even though it is supposed to have a satin finish to it. It does lengthen the eyelashes easily and volumize them well, but at times, it can clump up some lashes. Coating the lower lashes is a challenge for us as well. We have no issues removing the mascara though, which is a good thing indeed. Here for more.

NARS Kohliner, Minorque (MYR96)
As for the partner in crime to the Audacious Mascara, NARS introduces the new Kohliner. Comes only in one shade, which is black, this one is a dreamer. It glides on super effortlessly, and can be lined on the waterline as well to enhance our eye look. The eyeliner can be smudged and smoked out for a little smokey effect due to its easily bendable matte-black formula. With a twist-up wand, it is sleek and easy to use. We love the creamy texture, and soft on the eyelids as well. Definitely one of the eyeliners that we reach out to quite frequent of late. Here for more.

Do check out how Wayne explains and how effortlessly he uses the NARS Audacious Mascara here. Since the holiday season is fast approaching, have a look at NARS unique holiday collections that is a collaboration with Steven Klein here. Thanks NARS Malaysia for the love, as always. Till our next makeup adventure, have a luminously beautiful brand new week ahead, lovelies *_^

With love,
Jeann

  1. Whenever I'm at Sephora I always stop by the Nars section but I nothing has tempted me in awhile. I guess too many other things must be tempting me haha ;p This mascara does sound intriguing though it must not be fun to get pricked while trying to apply your mascara. I find the bigger brushes a little challenging to use and sometimes they work better if you employ an angle.

Yes the Bite lipsticks are supposed to be made from food grade ingredients. I have used them in the past and really like them.

    Happy new week Jeann!

Glad to know BITE lipsticks are good. Yet to try them.
