It is not often we visit the local Shiseido Malaysia's office but If you receive an invite to drop by, it would most often be something pretty exciting coming your way. That morning, it was exactly that, looking beautiful as this long-standing and popular Japanese beauty brand, Shiseido was about to unveil and introduce to us, the bloggers and media their latest innovative face product, aptly called Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation via an interactive workshop and demo session. So, off we went to have a great time and be mesmerised by the simple yet lovely set-up!

What we love about this Shiseido's latest creation is the technology behind it, a liquid foundation that is designed to be intuitive enough to adapt to different skin tone, recognise skin conditions and then adjust to one's skin tone, beautifying an individual's beauty without masking or covering it up - one foundation that syncs with the skin to reveal its true beauty, vitality and splendour. So, we have decided to put together a special feature, introducing you some of our most favourite base makeup products to achieve the glowing radiance look. We take on the notion that skin needs to breathe, for makeup to look natural, your skin needs to do that little peek-a-boo thing, we feel covering every imperfection is not exactly our best makeup approach, or at least, how we fancy it. Nonetheless, not everyone of us are born with perfect poreless or smooth skin, so it helps to have some base products that could even out the skin tone, making a few adjustments onto our skin surface here and there, (like blurring out some degree of imperfections) and yet, still maintain the true face that we would like to put forward. So, here are some of our most favourite base makeup products to meet such objectives, and later on, one or two products to enhance that extra little "glow"!

[Review] Shu Uemura Skin:FIT Cosmetic Water Foundation

We were first introduced to Shu Uemura's latest foundation, Skin:FIT Cosmetic Water at the media launch here previously. We have been test driving the foundation since. You must be curious why we say test driving? We shall discuss this shortly. 

It was introduced that Shu Uemura Skin:FIT Cosmetic Water Foundation (here for more) is a summer foundation that is thin, fit and lasting, specially designed for Asian skin, like ours. That got us really excited, as one may be well aware, it is always quite a challenge to have foundation that stay fresh and long-lasting in humid weather like where we come from, sunny and rainy Malaysia. Our needs: not only thin, feels refreshing, but oil-free, has to last (tested to last up to 12 hours), look natural, boasting a light fit and breathable coverage with UV sun protection. A tough call indeed, haha *_^ 

To make sure that the product captures the two opposing properties all in one (oil-free bi-phase formula) - sheer yet long-lasting, Shu Uemura needs to find the perfect powders that can absorb both oil and water, and at the same time, can be dispersed in water. With high-tech innovative approach, this quest leads to the discovering of the new Triple Powder Complex, a unique blend of three specially selected powders that can quickly absorb sweat and sebum for longer-lasting makeup while intelligently concealing dullness and tired skin for a soft-focused makeup finish. Water that harnesses Mint and Pomegranate Extracts goes further in offering a refreshing sensation and skin benefits. 

So what are the three powders? They are Perlite, Airlicium and Soft-focus Powder. Perlite quickly absorbs and releases water, Airlicium immediately absorbs oil and Soft-focus Powder gently covers pores. Sounds like a power combo. Airlicium is a super fluffy powder whose cells contain several micro-halls, once Airlicium catches the oil, it absorbs it at once. It also has higher absorption of oil compared to the conventional anti-shine powder, so Airlicium plays the main role in keeping skin light and protecting it from sebum. Other ingredients include cosmetic water for refreshing sensation and skincare benefits. Mint extract gives a cool sensation feeling and has skin conditioning properties while pomegranate provides the anti-aging benefits to the skin. It is good to note that the sun protection filter is usually oil dispersed and water dispersion is difficult, but this time Shu Uemura has looked into secret technology with water dispersing organic UV filter to offer sun protection with SPF30 PA+++. That is something quite remarkable, we feel.

[Review] RMK Casual Solid Foundation: The Perfect Summer Glow

We were never a huge fan of solid foundation years before as the one we tried was cakey and drying, it just didn't compliment our skin well enough and somehow aged us a tad. Since then, we try and stay away and our go to ones when it comes to base makeup is still liquid foundations, which we enjoy. When RMK Malaysia presented us with their latest RMK Casual Solid Foundation previously, we thought to ourselves, will this work for us? We brave ourselves to give this one a try. 

According to this Japanese brand, this latest edition to their already famous base makeup range is one that breathes fresh air onto your skin, it is supposed to "set your skin free" from all the caked-over makeup look, and leave your skin feeling fresh, light, glowing and easy.

The Ingredients
This solid foundation contains the wonders of four fine oil extracts: Bitter orange peel, Bilberry extract (a regular in RMK skincare range), new comers to the family, Sunflower oil and Almond oil. Extract of Bitter orange peel softens and hydrates the skin, extract of the Bilberry leaf, of the Ericacaea family, is a rich source of anthocyanin pigments (here for more in depth read on anthocyanin). Smoothly and quickly absorbed into the skin, Sunflower oil is a dream to apply and is frequently used in massage. Its linoleic, oleic acid (here to understand more) and high vitamin E content are proven agents in promoting fresh looking skin. Last but not least, Almond oil, a macromolecular oil made from the vegetable protein in almonds, absorbs into the skin fast, resulting in soft and resilient skin. Besides the oils, it also contains RMK special Fresh Clear Powder which is said that it will not alter the colour of the foundation, but instead, helps to keep it fresh and glowing over time by capturing the moisture within the skin.
